Reception Newsletter 20th September 2018
We have had a great first full week at school and the children have settled in really well and are enjoying the extended afternoon sessions.
This week we have started learning some letters to help us to learn to read, which is called Phonics. We introduced the children to our Phonics aliens, Roy and Arnold, who help us during our sessions. The children have shown huge enthusiasm for these sessions and have been very engaged. This week we have learnt the letters and sounds for s, a, t and p. Next week we will be learning i, n, m and d. We will also learn to sight read a ‘tricky’ word, which is ‘I’.
We would like to invite you to a meeting so that you feel more informed about what Phonics involves and some of the terminology we use with the children. We hope that this meeting will help you to feel able to support your child with their reading at home.
We will be holding two meetings on Wednesday 26th September at 5:30pm or Thursday 27th at 2:30pm. A letter has gone out about this today with a reply slip on the bottom. We would be grateful if you could respond so that we know how many might attend. If you cannot attend, we will be sending information about phonics home to you.
We have had a number of items go home with the wrong children, which do have names in them. Please carefully check the uniform you have at home and return anything that has accidentally found its way to you. Currently we have some unnamed black trousers, aged 4-5 from Asda.
Swimming lessons are in full swing. Don’t forget that these lessons are every Monday until further notice, so kit is needed every week.
Next week we will be visiting our school woods. With the weather as it is, we ask that you please provide wellies for your child. Woods visits will take place on Tuesdays, so if you do not want to keep wellies in school then please remember to bring them on the day.
We will be visiting the library in school on Mondays. Your child will bring a book home which should be shared together and kept with you until the following week. Please return these weekly, even if you want to keep them for an additional week. This means we can update our library system to keep your borrowing days to a minimum.
Please bring your child’s PE kit into school by Tuesday. These will then stay in school until Christmas break, when they will be sent home for a wash. PE lessons are on Wednesday.
Jeans 4 Genes day
Tomorrow, children may come to school wearing jeans, a denim dress or skirt in exchange for a 50p donation to the Jeans 4 Genes charity. Children should wear their school shoes, polo shirts and jumpers/cardigans as normal.
