Reception Newsletter 10th May 2018
We have baby news! A robin (or maybe more than one) has been born in the nest behind our classroom beams! We are all very excited as we can see the parents collecting food for them and when they feed them, we can hear a vibration and then the chick cheeping. Have a listen next time you’re in.
This week we have learnt the tricky word ‘there’ and have once again been working hard to read and write trickier words and to spot digraphs in words and sentences. Next week we are learning the tricky words ‘what’ and ‘one’ and will carry on practising reading and writing words with adjacent consonants (consonants next to each other, like spot or bump).
This week we have been learning how to double numbers and exploring this in different ways, using our fingers, different coloured paper chains and numicon. Next week we will be revisiting some of our previous addition and subtraction work, and counting on and back to work out number problems.
The children have really embraced our Literacy challenges this week and have loved learning our new story map ‘Dan the Dragon’. We will be using this story map as a starting point for our own stories next week, and talking lots about beginnings, middle and endings. We will also be trying some different challenges.
